What Trips His Trigger?

The Christmas season is fast approaching and this is the time of the year when we are making our lists of gifts to buy for family and friends. It's not an easy chore finding gifts to suit everyone but if you know what trips their trigger in life, you've got it made in the shade to find a gift they will love.

Does that man on your Christmas shopping list like fishing? Does he have a keen sense of humor and loves to wear funny t-shirts? If so, here's the perfect Christmas gift to ring his holiday bells:

Keep The Fish, Throw The Old Lady Back!

Or ... maybe you've got a feller who loves to feel the wind in his hair and the bugs on his teeth? If he loves to hit the road on his bike and is a biker at heart, this biker t-shirt will put a big smile on his face on Christmas morning.

Maybe that feller on your holiday shopping list, likes four wheels instead of two? If he's into classic muscle cars and can't wait for the weekend to roll around so he can drive his own four-wheeled beauty to those car shows to show her off, then this muscle car t-shirts will have him hitting on all pistons this Christmas!

That man on your Christmas shopping list may be the type of feller who reaches into the hallway closet to grab his bowling ball and bowling shoes just for the thrill of the sport at the local bowling alley. If so, you can put a huge smile on his face this Christmas with our bowling shirt!

Whatever trips his trigger, you can bet that SagArt has a Christmas gift to not only fit well under the Christmas tree, but to also fit well in his life. Get a jump on the holiday season by shopping SagArt today!

Vegan And Vegetarians Celebrate Christmas

I know Halloween isn't even here yet, but before we know it, Christmas will be upon us, and we'll wonder where the time went. As a vegan, I'm always looking for Christmas gifts that are unique, mainly for myself, since I'm the only vegan I know "personally". Veggie Shirts is one of my Zazzle galleries, where you can find vegan and vegetarian t-shirts I think other vegans and vegetarians, hopefully, will like. Three of my favorite vegan and vegetarian Christmas t-shirts are below, but if you're looking for other vegan or vegetarian Christmas t-shirts and gifts, please stop by and see me.

10 WARNING SIGNS OF ALZHEIMER'S - from Alzheimer's Assoc. Website

1. Memory loss. Forgetting recently learned information is one of the most common early signs of dementia. A person begins to forget more often and is unable to recall the information later.

What's normal? Forgetting names or appointments occasionally.

2. Difficulty performing familiar tasks. People with dementia often find it hard to plan or complete everyday tasks. Individuals may lose track of the steps involved in preparing a meal, placing a telephone call or playing a game.

What's normal? Occasionally forgetting why you came into a room or what you planned to say.

3. Problems with language. People with Alzheimer’s disease often forget simple words or substitute unusual words, making their speech or writing hard to understand. They may be unable to find the toothbrush, for example, and instead ask for "that thing for my mouth.”

What's normal? Sometimes having trouble finding the right word.

4. Disorientation to time and place. People with Alzheimer’s disease can become lost in their own neighborhood, forget where they are and how they got there, and not know how to get back home.

It's Voting Time!

It's early voting time in my state, and I am beyond excited to get to the courthouse and vote. This is the first time that I've ever been truly ecstatic and passionate about casting a ballot. The only thing holding me back right now is that that are a bunch of other pesky issues to deal with on the ballot as well. :)

You see, I can't bring myself to vote without knowing what's going on first. In my state right now, there are lottery issues, state rep seats, and several other issues that will need to be addressed. Until I know the facts about each, I'm going to (barely!) restrain myself from casting an early vote.

As I said, I'm passionate about a certain presidential candidate this year. Since this is a group blog, I'm not going to say whom out of respect for my fellow UnionEighters (Union Eighters? Unionaters? Does that just sound weird to anyone else?). We're a diverse group with lots of varying political views, and we like it that way.

Besides, I don't care whom you vote for. Well, I care a little. Ok, I care a lot, who am I kidding? What I truly care about, though, is that you just vote. And most importantly, place an educated vote. Know your candidate. Know what he stands for. Don't read forwarded emails, watch the past debates online instead (if you missed them the first time around) so you can see what the candidates have to say for yourself. Don't base your vote on information told to you by your cousin's sister's friend who once touched Obama/McCain's friend's brother's hand and just knew he was the right one. This is your decision, and it's a big one. The future's callin', and you'll look a fool if you can't answer that phone with some facts in hand!

See you at the polls! I look forward to it. :)

Holiday Insanity!

Here we are again at the point of starting that “twiz and tween” the holiday scene routine.

The last three months of every year has most of us running around like bionic chickens, flapping our wings and not making much progress because we are so pre-occupied with seasonal holidays. Seriously, you don’t know whether to shop for Christmas, dress like a ghoul or goblin or go baste a Turkey.

As a child, I thought it took forever for the holidays to roll around. I’d get all excited about Halloween night; planning my scary costume; and map out my route to go trick or treating for those sugary goodies. The minutes, hours and days ticked by so slowly that it almost drove me into a pre-Halloween insanity state.

As an adult it’s more of a case of … Oh gosh, it’s here already! I better get out the Halloween decorations; carve the pumpkin into a Halloween Jack-o-lantern; go shopping for those treats that all the ghosts and goblins show up for; better get the popcorn balls and pumpkin cookies baked; and so on and so forth. I still get into that pre-Halloween insanity state, but it’s for a total different reason!

As a child, I couldn’t wait for Thanksgiving to arrive. Dang, it was a long wait in between Halloween and Thanksgiving! The excitement would build as I anticipated going to Grandmas to enjoy a day of fantastic food laced with a full day of playing with my cousins. If time would just move a little faster then I wouldn’t have to suffer with my pre-Thanksgiving insanity!

As an adult, I rush around clearing out the jack-o-lantern that has grown a fuzzy penicillin beard on the front porch; put away all the Halloween decorations; and hide all the left-over Halloween candy from myself.

Then I run at record pace to drag out the Thanksgiving paraphernalia and decorations; pen a shopping list for Thanksgiving dinner that will cost as much as the National Debt. Plan a menu that includes more food than we could eat in a month; get the Thanksgiving table linens all cleaned and starched; and go shopping for a Thanksgiving centerpiece for the table. Somewhere in between all this activity, I will actually start some serious housecleaning. Wasn’t Halloween just yesterday? It’s enough to throw you into a state of pre-Thanksgiving insanity!

As a child, I no more than swallow my Thanksgiving dinner before I starting day-dreaming about and anticipating the holiday of all holidays … Christmas! I use to think that the long slowly moving days between Thanksgiving and Christmas was an evil plan by adults to make children suffer. It’s enough to put any child into a pre-Christmas insanity state!

As an adult, … “Where the Hell did Thanksgiving go?”
I grab …
the Thanksgiving decorations and stuff them into the closet;
grab the Christmas decorations and throw them around the house;
go shopping for a Christmas tree;
decorate the Christmas tree as fast as possible;
drag out the Christmas cards and get those addressed and mailed;
make a list for holiday feasts and parties;
plan goodies to bake and deliver to friends;
shop for gifts;
wrap gifts; and so on and so forth.

It’s enough to put any sane person into a state of pre-Christmas insanity!

So, if you happen to run into a gal dressed like a spooky and scary Mrs. Santa with turkey feathers in her hair … just ignore her. That’ll be me riding the wave of holiday insanity the only way I can. Happy Insanity Holidays to you too!

Animal Rights Are For Everyone

I have a porch on the back of my house where I keep tools and all sorts of small lawn equipment. In order to go out the back door, I have to go through the porch to get to the backyard. Yesterday, when I took my two dogs outside, a bluejay flew in the open porch door and got trapped. He had been out looking for breakfast, because he had a berry in his mouth, which he quickly dropped once he found out he was trapped. Instead of finding the open door, he kept banging into the two porch windows, trying to get out. As I stood there, watching him frantically trying to free himself, I tried to show him the open door, but he was too petrified and ran from me. After a while, he hid in some of the things I have on the porch, and I couldn't find him. I prayed that if I left the door open, he would eventually find his way out to freedom, and luckily, he did, but I felt so sorry for him, and it reminded me of all the animals who find themselves in that position. As much as "man" may pretend that he's the only
species on earth that values life, "man" needs to take a look around and see the suffering animals endure because of this attitude. Animals are seen by man as disposable, and are considered "property" by the government. Thousands and thousands of animals are abused on a daily basis, but, sadly, most of us are "shielded" from that information. When we go to the supermarket to buy meat, it's neatly wrapped up in plastic and styrofoam and doesn't even resemble an animal anymore. If we all had to kill our dinners, most of us would become vegetarians overnight. The dirty work is done for us, so we continue to ignore the horrible suffering "food" animals endure just so we can enjoy their flesh. I've been a vegan for about 17 years, and became one primarily because of the way the animals are treated. The abuse is heartbreaking and horrendous. It doesn't stop with farm animals either. Millions of dogs and cats are euthanized each year because there aren't enough homes to go around. Abraham Lincoln
once said, "I'm in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of the whole human being". Countries are judged by the way they treat their animals, and, sadly, the United States will go down in history as being one of the most abusive countries toward animals in the world. If you support animal rights, you can find some nice animal rights t-shirts and gifts at Veggie Shirts, a subsidiary of Union Eight.

Where Did The Time Go?

Next month my hubby has his birthday, the BIG 5-0 ! That's right, he's turning 50 years old, reaching that half-century mark when a person exclaims "Where did the time GO?" And next year, it's my turn. I remember when my Dad turned 50, he announced that from here on out, he would be counting backwards when his birthday came around. The next year, he was 49 for the second time, etc. That was a lot of fun.
So who else turned or is turning 50 in 2008?
Ellen DeGeneres
Michelle Pfeiffer
Prince
Sharon Stone
Viggo Mortensen
and Madonna!
Hmmm.... seems my husband has some pretty good company for sharing such an important milestone year with! So I guess we'll make that big old birthday cake and I'll get him a special t-shirt from one of our Union Eight shops, and let him blow out his candles in style. And while I'm at it, I'll get one for me for next year.

It's All Because of Peacocks

It's 3:30 am, I should be asleep. I'm tired, I worked all day and I'm still working. I'm blaming it on the peacocks. Yes, you heard me correct (or is it correctly? I'm honestly too tired to go to webster.com and find out). It's all the fault of the peacocks.
It all started innocently enough. "Let's start an ecard site" he said. Who is he? He is an online friend who out of the blue one day said "Let's start an ecard site". I laughed. I mean, neither of us knew a thing about ecards other than they are fun to send now and then. We both dabbled a bit in Paint Shop Pro but, really, did that qualify us as being owners of an ecard site?
Yet as days went by his enthusiasm was contagious and before I knew it, it sounded like a good idea, and so it began that for the next year I made ecards and more ecards. I haphazardly (wrong spelling?) learned Flash5 and animation, and looking back now I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. Some of the ecards I came up with prove that point, yet there are others to this day I am quite proud of. Ok, now the ecards were made, how do we get them to be available to a site visitor? Again, we had no idea where to look or who to ask, but we figured it out. And I began to realize something I never understood before in my life. You see, I had been a stay at home mom, a high school graduate with no college education, and this was a very new venture for me. I was starting to realize that dreams are possible! If you want it bad enough, and you run into obstacles, like ...having no idea how to get these cards from my computer to on a site where a customer could send them...you do one of two things. You either quit, or you figure it out. That was one of the biggest lessons in life I ever learned. Well, not quite as simple as that perhaps, but yes, the message to me, the learning experience was, that you can do anything if you just keep plugging away at it. I spent about ten hours one time trying to figure out how a "library" works in a Poser4 program. I asked a zillion goofy questions on a Poser forum and finally, finally after ten hours someone gave me the answer I needed. You ask questions, you read, you google for answers, you spend time on forums bugging people smarter than yourself, you team up with people who have similar interests and similar work ethics and you push ahead until you get to that dream. Of you can quit of course.
But that brings me back to the fact that it is now a quarter to four in the morning, and I'm still working! I am telling you, it's the fault of those blasted peacocks. Oh dont' get me wrong, I love peacocks, I have several really cool ones, not living breathing ones of course, but nevertheless peacocks. It all started out with wondering what to name this free ecard site we started. I'm not even sure who came up with the name. I think it wasn't me, and I think it was actually even based on a joke, but hey, peacocks are cool, peacocks are pretty, beautiful even, and our ecards were going to be G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S! And so, Peacock Cards it was, and still is. Might not be the best name, relevant even to designing and selling T-shirts, but I do think it's memorable.
Check out my Peacock Cards Store if you have a chance. Peacock Cards is a proud member of Union Eight! Maybe one day I'll even have peacock designs in my galleries! Until then, here's a couple designs I did a while back, drawn with my mouse.

Spooky Halloween Story

Whee-doggie! Halloween is just around the corner and all the ghostly creatures of the night will be walking the streets looking for treats and pulling tricks. In the spirit of Halloween, ole' SagArt is sharing a ghost story with you retold by S.E. Schlosser. It's a hair-raiser of a story that you can share with family and friends to get a ghostly grasp of the Halloween spirit.

The Ghost of Pearl White
retold by
S. E. Schlosser
When I was a kid, my grandparent's bought a huge old boarding house in Jersey City. It had once housed the actresses working for a big silent film studio across the street, but the film studio was long gone, and the boarding house was unused. My grandparents converted it into a 3-family home. They moved into the bottom floor, offered my parents the second floor, and rented out the third. It worked out pretty good for everyone. Extra income for my grandparents, privacy for our family with quick access to Grandma when it was wanted or needed, and the couple on the third floor were quiet. Very quiet.

Not sure where I got the notion from, maybe I overheard my parents talking, but I soon got it into my young head that the wife of the man renting the upstairs apartment was a recluse. M parents never saw her, and when it was time to pay the rent, it was the man who walked downstairs to the ground floor to speak to my grandparents. We all thought it a bit strange that the woman was so unsocial, but other school concerns quickly drove the woman out of my mind. At least for awhile.

Now bedtime for me, at the new house, was eight p.m. sharp. My bedroom was opposite the staircase, and I could see it clearly when lying tucked up in my bed for the night. So when the stranger-lady in the gorgeous, fancy yellow dress came walking past my room, and headed up toward the third floor staircase one night, I blinked for a moment in surprise. Then I realized it must be the reclusive wife of our neighbor, and I relaxed. She sure was a pretty lady, I thought as I drifted toward sleep. And that dress was to die for!

After that, I saw the lady most nights, walking past my door to the staircase. I loved her clothes. Often she wore the yellow dress. But sometimes it was blue or pink or white, with lovely lace or embroidery. One night, she came right into my room and went into the closet. That surprised me a little. Then I realized there must be a secret staircase in my closet, leading to the third floor. In the morning I tried to find it, but it eluded me. I saw her walk into the closet a couple of times over the years, but usually she just walked up the main staircase.

Eventually, my grandparents sold the house to my aunt, and all of us went to live in a nice home in the suburbs. About a month after the move, my aunt came to my parent's house in a rage. I sat in the kitchen, eating cookies and listening quietly, hoping no one would notice me and send me away while they talked “grown-up” stuff.

“I can't believe you sold me a haunted house!” my aunt said to my grandpa.
“What do you mean, haunted?” Grandpa ask. And my aunt explained. In detail. About the ghostly woman who walked up the second floor staircases each night at eight, and who sometimes went into the closet of my old room.

I stared at her, pop-eyed in wonder. The woman had been a ghost? Really? I could barely believe it. Still, my aunt had seen her, long after the couple on the third floor had moved away from the building. Feeling it was time to speak up, I told my parents and grandparents about my own ghostly sightings. So they had to believe it, since both my aunt and I had seen the ghost. I told my parents that I never felt threatened or frightened in any way when I saw the ghost. Indeed, my memories of the ghost are all pleasant ones.

A look through old photographs of female stars of the old silent films identified the ghost as that of Pearl White, and further research revealed that my old closet had been the dressing room for some of the actresses. So that explained why the ghost had sometimes walked into my closet, although I was a bit disappointed that there was no secret staircase.

To this day, I sill have no idea why the ghost of Pearl White still walks the halls of her old boarding house. Perhaps it is to remind herself of a happy period in her life. All I know for sure is that she has the best clothes! I'm still envious of her beautiful dresses.

Sarcasm at Its Immature Best

So what's a twenty-something year old supposed to do when she gets pregnant and has a litte one?

Step One: Begin an immediate search for snarky baby clothing, of course.
Step Two: Discover that the appropriate snide baby slogan bibs and onesies do not exist.
Step Three: Fall into a deep depression.
Step Four: Snap out of it ten minutes later and realize that maybe it's possible to create some oneself.
Step Five: Take a nap.

Thus began the dark and complex journey into Teewit.

Ok, so maybe it wasn't dark.

No, wait- it was. Literally. Mostly because I had to wait until that little stinker/darling went to bed every night to work. When you have a newborn, you don't get a lot of sleep anyway, so I decided to forgo all rest completely in favor of designing. And hey, it's paid off, right? So what if I've got eyes puffier than the Michelin Man. And deep shadows are great since black's slimming anyway. Fab way to hide the baby fat, no?

I've taken the time to incorporate every single one of my immature thoughts along with ideas from other friends (ok, toddlers) into one big sarcastic enterprise full of funny baby clothing, maternity t-shirts, and gifts for the whole family. My now three year old approves. This one's her favorite:

October Child - Part Of Union Eight Clothing And Gifts

When you visit Union Eight at Zazzle.com you will find some of the most interesting tshirt and gift items available on the web. Union Eight is a great place for holiday shopping or stop by any time to find an eclectic mix of unique clothing and gifts for friends and family.
One of the designers represented by Union Eight is October Child. That's me. Let me tell you a little about myself and the shops I've created. Each of them has a little bit to do with my interests or life experiences and I hope you'll love the designs as much as I loved creating them.
As a mother of seven, I've had my share of pregnancies. One of the questions people ask you ALL the time is "when are you due?". So I created Mom To Be designs for mothers who want to announce their due date the fast and easy way.
One of those pregnancies was with a set of twin boys. Check out T-shirts 4 Twins to find funny twin designs for Mom, Dad, and the twins themselves.
I was born in California but we've been Pennsylvanians for some 20 years now. We've traveled America coast to coast more than once and I love all the beautiful states that make the USA what it is. I hope you'll check out Hometown Shirt, where you'll find t-shirts for our 50 wonderful states and lots of cool cities and towns.
With all those kids we needed something to keep them busy. Music seemed a great answer and we have 4 piano players, 4 french horn players, a trumpet player and a trombone player. I've been to more marching band shows than I care to count and a lot of symphony concerts. Out of that came The Mad Conductor Music Shop where you'll find oodles of musical instrument t-shirts, mugs and gifts. It's a great place to shop for Christmas music gifts or band season specials.
On a sad note, both my mom and my dad suffered from Alzheimer's Disease in their later years. Our family cared for my mom in our home for 5 years and I have a real interest in promoting awareness about dementia research needs. November is Alzheimer's Awareness month, so I hope you'll stop in at my Memory Shoppe and pick up a button or sticker to raise awareness about this awful disease that affects so many families.
October Child has a lot more to offer as well. We'll save those for another day. Here is a sampling of what you can find in my Union Eight shops.

Slogan T-shirts

Slogan T-shirts have been around since the early 1980s. They instantly became popular because people found they had a new avenue for being heard. What do you want to say? What is important to you? Is there an issue you are passionate about, a cause you wish to promote, something you feel strongly "anti" about? Slogan T-shirts that raise awareness can be found in all of the Union Eight galleries by each of the designers, after all, we are human and we too have beliefs, passions, causes that we want to help raise awareness about. I decided to look through the Union Eight galleries and post some of the various awareness T-shirts.
You can help raise awareness about Alzheimers Disease by wearing this T-shirt from the Alzheimers Memory Shoppe.

Awareness Ribbon Tees has several designs to raise awareness of Autism, Breast Cancer, Organ Donation, Celiac Disease, and Heart Disease, so if any of those diseases are something you'd like to help raise awareness about that's a great place to get them!
Breast Cancer T-shirts are one of the best ways to show your support and join the fight against Breast Cancer. Let everyone know that you support Breast Cancer Research to find a cure with our Breast Cancer T-shirts. Sagarts Breast Cancer T-shirts and Gifts is the place to find many designs and shirt styles to fit your needs.
If you're looking for a pink ribbon T-shirt that's easy as pie to customize, here's one that's a template and you only have to add the text you want. Takes about 2 seconds to create and it's ready for order.
Here's a pink ribbon Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt that is available for showing support for your mother, daughter, wife, aunt, and sister from the Tee Shirts Tshirts store.
Any time is a great time to raise awareness about our environment, and this T-shirt from Cowpie Creek reminds everyone you meet to do their part in keeping our earth safe!

With Halloween coming it's the perfect time to raise awareness about peanut allergies and other life threatening allergies. Please think about passing out candy that is peanut free and made in a peanut free facility this Halloween. If you are a parent of a child with a severe peanut allergy, wearing T-shirts like this one from the Peanut Allergy Store could help raise awareness and also help save your child's life!

Just A Thinkin!

The other day I was thinking about Union Eight and was pondering the question of what people might believe Union Eight to be. So just out of curiosity (and because I was trying to put off my routines chores), I decided to look up the word Union ... just to see what it produced.

This is what my exploration produced:

Union – The act of uniting or the state of being united. Yep, I guess it applies to Union Eight as we are united in some ways and some activities.

Union – The state of matrimony; marriage. Lordy no, that tain't us folks! Most of us are already hitched up with someone and not interested in becoming polygamists. Too much laundry and dirty dishes involved for me to even think about it.

Union - A labor union that admits all workers in a given industry irrespective of their craft. Nah, that tain't us either! Even though most of us labor night and day, we don't admit all workers in our industry into Union Eight ... and are not card carrying Union folks. With that said, there are times I do feel like striking!

Union - The act of pairing a male and female for reproductive purposes; "the casual couplings of adolescents"; "the mating of some species occurs only in the spring". Now that's just down-right tickles me innards! Somebody get me a bible because I swear that is not what Union Eight folks are up too. But it did clear one thing up for me. Do y'all get a bit friskier in the spring? Fess up!

Union - An association of individuals or groups for a common purpose. Yep, that pretty much describes us in my mind. Each of us have separate identities and contributions that we combine for a common purpose in Union Eight. Bingo, we nailed it!

Well folks, we've uncovered the true meaning of the word Union of our Union Eight group. Mystery solved ... just call me Shereluck Homes. Now, we could go and explore the word Eight, but my head hurts from thinkin' so much and I only learned to count to five anyway. Therefore, we'll let all of you figure out what the Eight means in Union Eight for yourselves.

Before you set off on your own thinkin' exploration, just take a gander at the great gear Union Eight offers!

Union Eight goes Political...

One of the best things about being part of a group of very talented designers is that we all bring something different to each category. So since the Presidential race is heating up pretty good I thought I'd add what each of us brings to Politics.

This great Obama 2008 with stars is perfect for any age supporter of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
If you support John McCain and Sarah Palin then this is the perfect design for females of all ages. Girls, Women, Children anyone.

If you want people to vote and are volunteering to get people registered, then wearing this great sticker would be perfect.

Maybe you just can't believe what our choices are this time around. Then maybe this design says it all.

If you want people to know what state you are from and what party you are voting for then this shop has all of them.

Maybe you want to show that you support Sarah Palin in a very subtle way. This would do it.

Or maybe you need a great hat.

But whatever you want or need, Union Eight has it.
